Lizard Hiss Artist Studio

Shuttles

Lizard Hiss Artist Studio has been weaving rugs and tapestries for over 20 years. These beauties are popular and versatile. Sizes are generally 33 inches wide and vary in length from 18 to 70 inches.

The weaving technique is a special one developed by Peter Collingwood, shaft switching, that makes the tapestries-rugs reversible. The materials are a heavy Irish linen warp set at 6 threads per inch, and a rug wool weft, woven at 16 threads per inch, that makes a very durable item that will last through decades of heavy use.

The colors are vibrant synthetic dyes that will stand up to cleaning and years of use. Cleaning can be done with standard carpet cleaning techniques or dry cleaning. Daily cleaning can be with your vacuum cleaner with a powerhead-beater bar- really!

Types of edges

The ends of the rug, edge, are woven with a linen weft and hemmed by machine sewing with nylon thread.

This is where all these tapestries-rugs are woven. The contraption above the heddle frames is a hand made shaft-switching device that moves the wool weft pattern from the top to the bottom with a throw of a lever. A warp extender is on the back to accommodate the fact that linen stretches very little as it is woven.
